Looking to extend on what has been a very impressive start to the New Year, Lincoln will make the trip to the One Call Stadium on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, largely outplayed and hit with a 2-1 defeat away at Newport over the weekend after throwing away the lead late on, Mansfield appear to be set for another relegation scrap in League Two this time around. Just about managing to keep hold of their Football League status after watching the 2019/2020 campaign brought to an early halt earlier in the year, John Dempster s men signed off their pre-season preparations with a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Rotherham and have really failed to lay down any marker this season. One of just four sides in England s fourth-tier who are yet to pick up a single victory since opening the New Year, the Stags have also continued to show some extended issues at the back. Marking their return to competitive action back in August when they were blown away in a 4-0 defeat against Preston in the EFL Cup, Mansfield also opened their EFL Trophy adventure with a 3-0 drumming against Manchester City s U21s.
As for the visitors, while Mansfield might already find themselves scrapping it out at the foot of the League Two table, Lincoln have continued to impress under Michael Appleton. With their sights firmly set on securing a maiden Championship run next season, the former Portsmouth boss once again saw his side impress as they landed a dramatic 3-2 win away at Blackpool over the weekend. With the mood in their camp at a real high and already finding a route to top spot in League One entering October, the Lincolnshire outfit have really bounced back since their rollercoaster 7-2 defeat against Premier League giants Liverpool in the EFL Cup last month. With a real reputation for their recent performances in the final third and landing 2-0 victories against the likes of Charlton and Oxford, Lincoln will be looking to make a similar statement on their travels in midweek. With Jorge Grant already bagging four goals in as many appearances, we re backing an away victory on Tuesday.
