I’m pleased and very proud: Evra

(GSM) Patrice Evra, first choice at left back for Sir Alex Ferguson, has revealed that he is happy and proud for having played more games at Manchester United.

Evra was named in 51 of United s 56 match day squads this season, with only one omission (CSKA Moscow away) down to injury.

It s a source of obvious pride for the full-back, who was one of the Reds most consistent performers across the season. But for Wayne Rooney ss breathtaking form, Evra may well have picked up one or two individual awards.

I’m pleased and very proud [to have played 51 games] because you can easily have an injury, Frenchman told MUTV.

I was in good form and my team-mates, the gaffer and everyone have congratulated me for my season.

It was not only about playing the games but performing for the 51 games. This is why I’m very proud of myself. I’m also proud to have lifted the only trophy we won this season, the Carling Cup, when I was captain, United defender said.

The stats to the right show how much better United performed in 2009/10 when Evra played besides the Reds won more games and lost less often when Patrice was involved from the first whistle.

Of course, the 28-year-old’s talents aren’t only appreciated at Old Trafford. In late April Evra was included in the PFA Team of the Year for the third time in four seasons. He’s also certain to be a key member of Raymond Domenech’s France side at this summer’s World Cup.

It’s testament to how hard he’s worked since arriving in Manchester back in January 2006. You can see how he’s gone from playing just over 60 per cent of matches in his first two seasons to becoming a regular in Sir Alex’s starting XI. Indeed, no other United player started more games last season.
