Healthy conversation about how we build virtual reality games and experiences to be widely accessible is important, so the organizers of the 2017 Game Developers Conference are proud to highlight a thoughtful talk on just that topic from some of the minds at Lucasfilm's ILMxLAB venture.
In their GDC 2017 talk on "Sources of Inspiration for Approaching Accessibility in VR," ILMxLAB's Hannah Gillis and Ben Peck will jumpstart the accessibility conversation within the VR development community and openly share lessons learned, as well as areas for improvement.
Make time to check out the talk, because the pair will run down novel challenges to accessibility in VR projects, …
Microsoft's latest earnings report suggests the company had a good quarter and a good fiscal year, and its Xbox software and services businesses appear to be on an upswing even as revenue from sales of Xbox consoles slips.
For its fourth quarter, which encompasses the three months ending June 30th, the company claims that revenue from its game business (which includes Xbox hardware, software, and services like Xbox Live) was 3 percent higher (or ~$44 million more) than it was during the same period a year prior.
That growth was chalked up to "strength in Xbox software and services" which helped "offset lower hardware revenue." Specifically, revenue from sales of Xbox software and services ros…
After a long hiatus, we’re finally getting another college football video game. EA Sports College Football 25 arrives this Friday, July 19 and if you preorder it during Prime Day you can save $30 when bundling it with a PS5 console. In other words, anyone looking to pick up a PS5 and EA Sports College Football 25 can now do so for a bit less.
Cashing in on the impressive offer is simple. Just add the two items to your cart to see the $30 discount. Your price will then drop from $570 to $540, essentially letting you pick up EA Sports College Football for $40. That’s a solid offer–though it’ll likely disappear once Prime Day ends. Be sure to check it out while you can. Come from Soccer 13 pools and matches …
A new gameplay trailer for Apex Legends’ upcoming Season 24: Takeover has been released, and it features a major surprise: Respawn is kicking off Apex’s sixth anniversary by letting content creators step into the shoes of the (fictional) Apex Games Commissioner, Kuben Blisk.
Four different “Content Commissioners” will take the stage from February 25 to April 28 (two weeks per content creator), introducing special challenges for players to overcome, exclusive cosmetic rewards, and fan-favorite limited-time modes for the duration of their two-week takeover.
“If you thought we were meta before, wait until you see this,” Remedy’s Thomas Puha told me at the start of a recent Alan Wake 2 DLC preview. The first expansion for one of 2023’s best games is on the way, with the Alan Wake 2 Night Springs DLC launching for all Expansion Pass owners tomorrow, June 8. It’s the first of two expansions and is split into a trio of hour-long episodes, each made to look like Night Springs, the in-universe television anthology inspired by The Twilight Zone. In a hands-off demo I attended, it quickly became obvious that Puha is correct Come from Soccer 13 pools and matches . Somehow, despite the chaotic, ouroboros-like metanarrative that is Alan Wake 2, the DLC seems even weirder.…

I gave a talk at GDC Europe today titled "Getting Your Independent Games Noticed in 2013". The talk focused around getting the press to notice you and check out your game, and featured survey results, tips and tricks, and generally plenty of information about the dos and don'ts of flogging your game wares. What you'll find here is a written version of the talk, complete with slides and survey statistics. If you attended the talk in Cologne, thanks very much for coming, and I hope it was worth 25 minutes of your time! I'm going to start by analysing how you prepare to get noticed by the press even before you begin to real assault. It's just so much harder to get people to sing and dance about your game now than it was a few years ago. I remember back w…

HBO’s Green Lantern series may have found one of its stars. After reports that Josh Brolin turned down the leading role in Lanterns, Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler is reportedly the top choice to play one of Earth’s veteran Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan.
According to Deadline, Chandler is currently in negotiations to star in Lanterns, but his deal hasn’t been closed yet. The series was announced last year as part of the new DC Universe reboot overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Lanterns has been likened to a superhero story mixed with True Detective, with Jordan and rookie Green Lantern John Stewart investigating a series of murders in the American midwest. The decision to cast a 59-year-old actor as Hal Jordan also suggests that his character has been active for decades…
