HBO’s Green Lantern series may have found one of its stars. After reports that Josh Brolin turned down the leading role in Lanterns, Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler is reportedly the top choice to play one of Earth’s veteran Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan.
According to Deadline, Chandler is currently in negotiations to star in Lanterns, but his deal hasn’t been closed yet. The series was announced last year as part of the new DC Universe reboot overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Lanterns has been likened to a superhero story mixed with True Detective, with Jordan and rookie Green Lantern John Stewart investigating a series of murders in the American midwest. The decision to cast a 59-year-old actor as Hal Jordan also suggests that his character has been active for decades…
Fortnite Festival Season 5 launches this weekend with a headliner who’s a pretty major pivot from Metallica: Colombian pop and reggaeton singer Karol G. As has been the custom for each season of Festival so far, Karol G will have two skins available to obtain–one in the Season 5 Festival Pass, and one in the item shop–along with a variety of instruments, jam tracks, emotes and other cosmetics. For good measure, Karol G will have her own Fortnite concert experience next weekend, and the new Festival season is bringing us some highly requested quality-of-life changes.
Season 5, which runs until November 2, adds an all-new Festival Pass to the game. The pass costs 1800 V-Bucks, as it did in previous seasons, and includes both free and paid tracks. Buying the pass will immediately g…
Baldur’s Gate 3 is getting one last big update in Patch 8, which will introduce cross-play between all consoles, PC, and even Mac. But before Larian puts the latest patch through a stress test with players, the developer has shared more details about what to expect.
Photo mode and 12 new subclasses are among the new features that stand out in Patch 8. There are also a number of bug fixes and in-game mod improvements. Larian’s latest update notes that there have been 100 million mod downloads to date. The company also promised that more mods are being approved for console players.
Mac players also have new minimum specs for Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian now suggests that Mac users update their system to macOS 14 (version 14.7.1) or later. Older Macs that can’t be updated to that le…
Fortnite Reload–a new version of battle royale in the vein of Call of Duty: Warzone’s Resurgence mode–came out of nowhere this past weekend, a surprising shot in the arm to a game that’s needed one badly after the launch of the vehicle-oriented summer season fell flat for a lot of players–in particular with folks who prefer build mode. That included many prominent streamers, who struggled to adapt to all the new changes in Chapter 5 Season 3 that were at odds with normal build-mode playstyles.
Reload feels like Epic’s constructed-as-quickly-as-possible response to the poor season launch. And while I’d love to be annoyed that it seemingly hacked something together so quickly to appease streamers, Fortnite Reload is so much fun, and such a dramatic change of p…
Deadpool and Wolverine is the superhero comeback for more than just Hugh Jackman. As revealed in an early trailer for the film, Aaron Stanford is reprising his role as John Allerdyce aka Pyro, a part he portrayed in the first three X-Men movies from 2000 to 2006. There are several other cameos expected in the film, but since Stanford was among the first to be shown, the actor is finally able to talk about his return to the franchise after 18 years.
In X-Men and X2: X-Men United, the films re-envisioned John as a student at Professor Xavier’s school and a friend to Bobby Drake/Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) and Rogue (Anna Paquin). Near the end of X2, Magneto (Ian McKellen) recruits John, who starts going by his chosen codename, Pyro. During X-Men: The Last Stand, Pyro was a member of Magn…

Geoff Keighley, who organzes the show, has now offered some insight into what won’t be on hand at the briefing.
As reported by IGN, Keighley confirmed there will be no Grand Theft Auto VI trailer during Summer Game Fest. Apparently that’s not going to happen, though, and GTA fans will have to wait a while longer.
Keighley a…

Later this week, the Borderlands movie will bring the long-running video game franchise to the big screen. Jack Black is co-starring in the film as the voice of the fan-favorite robot, Claptrap. That’s a role that Borderlands creator Randy Pitchford has wanted Black to play since 2012. And because it’s a voiceover only role, Black was able to record all of his lines for the movie before a single frame of footage was shot.
“I have to admit, I never went to the set,” said Black during a recent appearance on Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend. “I did my whole role in a recording studio before they started filming [and] I had a great time doing that.”
However, Black’s absence from the set didn’t go unnoticed by his co-stars. And one of Black’s cast mates called him out on it.
“I…
To celebrate GameSpot sister-site Giant Bomb’s sixteenth anniversary, the entirety of Let’s Play series Metal Gear Scanlon is now on YouTube for free.
So named for co-host Drew Scanlon, the series sees him and Dan Ryckert, among other guests, tackle each of Metal Gear Solid’s major titles, from the original PlayStation game to Metal Gear Rising Revengence to The Phantom Pain. Scanlon had never played Metal Gear before doing the series, so Ryckert acts as a tour guide. On YouTube, each season has been put into a giant, multi-hour video, but no further editing has been done.
Drew Scanlon was a Giant Bomb staff member until 2017, but you might know him best as the “blinking white guy” in that one gif. He currently works at video game development studio Digital Eclipse…
