Monaco confirm Jardim as coach

Leonardo Jardim has been confirmed as Monaco s new coach on a two-year deal, replacing Claudio Ranieri at the principality club.

The 39-year-old enjoyed a hugely successful campaign at the helm of Sporting Lisbon last term, guiding them to second in the Primeira Liga and securing a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2008-09.

However, Sporting revealed last month that a €3million release clause in his contract had been triggered, allowing him to leave.

And Jardim is delighted to have made the switch to the Stade Louis II.

I am very happy to work for Monaco as it is a big club, he told the club s official website.

I fully believe in this project and I think that this group can go far.

AS Monaco is a team with players full of qual…

Kante signs new five-year Chelsea deal

N Golo Kante has signed a new five-year contract at Chelsea, the club have confirmed.

The France international has enjoyed a remarkable rise to prominence in recent years, having been instrumental in Leicester City s shock 2015-16 Premier League title success and subsequently becoming a key figure at Stamford Bridge.

Kante joined Chelsea for a reported £30million in 2016 and enjoyed a seamless transition, instantly becoming a vital cog in Antonio Conte s title-winning side in his debut season.

Chelsea suffered last term, but Kante remained a standout figure and has continued as such under Maurizio Sarri, playing every minute in the Premier League under the former Napoli coach.

Watford bring in Deulofeu

Watford have completed the loan signing of Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona, according to the Mail Online.

The Spain international has joined up with the Hornets for the remained of the season and becomes Javi Gracia’s first signing since being named as Marco Silva’s replacement earlier this month.

The forward rejoined Barca from Everton in the summer but has started just five league games this season and has fallen further down the pecking order following the return to fitness of Ousmane Dembele and the signing of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.

Prior to his switch back to Spain the twenty-three year old spent one-and-a-half seasons with Everton where he scored four goals in forty-six games while he also spent the 2013/14 campaign on loan with the Mersey…

Mourinho wins games with his half-time speeches – Sahin

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho embodies what it takes to win at the highest level as he does everything he can to succeed, according to midfielder Nuri Sahin.

Sahin knows Mourinho s managerial style first-hand, having been lured to Real Madrid by the passionate Portuguese tactician in 2011.

The 28-year-old back at Borussia Dortmund for a third spell was part of Mourinho s 2011-12 LaLiga-winning squad at Madrid.

Reflecting on his time under Mourinho in the Spanish capital, Sahin highlighted his team-talks.

He wins his games at half-time, Sahin told German publication Socrates.

His speech amazing! I still have them in my ears.

Of course every player wants to win, but Mourinho embodies the victory. He does everything he can, he lo…

Jesus credits City team-mate Fernandinho for return to form

Gabriel Jesus credited Manchester City and Brazil team-mate Fernandinho for helping him to get back on the goal trail.

Jesus netted an impressive brace in City s 4-1 Premier League win over Burnley on Tuesday, ending a run of 10 matches without a goal for club and country that featured two missed penalties.

A pair of assured finishes suggested a return to form for the 22-year-old, who is expected to lead the line for Pep Guardiola s men once again in Saturday s Manchester derby, as Sergio Aguero remains sidelined with a thigh injury.

I had a talk with Fernandinho. He has been helping me a lot. He has always been very important since I arrived at the club, Jesus said.

With his experience throughout his career, he is giving me advice. The day before the g…

Atletico Madrid ´strength´ key to Griezmann stay, says Costa

Diego Costa always expected Antoine Griezmann to reject Barcelona s advances because he thinks  big club Atletico Madrid can compete with the best.

France forward Griezmann, 27, pledged his long-term future to Atleti in June, signing a contract extension through to 2023.

He had been widely tipped to join Barca after a protracted transfer saga that remained unresolved until the early stages of the World Cup.

Costa, who voiced regret over leaving for Chelsea in 2014, believes his team-mate was right to spurn the move in favour of continuity.

I understood Griezmann. People criticise and people around him may have told him that he needed a change, just as what happened to me, the Spain striker told Marca.

Outsiders were very opinionated, but …

Chelsea 1 Tottenham 3: Eriksen & Alli break Spurs´ Stamford Bridge curse

Christian Eriksen s stunning strike and a Dele Alli double delivered Tottenham their first win at Stamford Bridge since 1990 as they dealt Chelsea s Champions League hopes a hammer blow with a 3-1 Premier League victory.

Spurs went into the contest five points clear of their hosts in the race for Champions League qualification and looking to end a hoodoo that stretched back to the pre-Premier League era.

It looked unlikely that they would do so when Alvaro Morata pounced on a goalkeeping error from Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris to head Chelsea ahead with his first Premier League goal of 2018.

But a wonderful long-range leveller from Eriksen on the stroke of half-time proved the turning point in a contest that left Antonio Conte under yet more pressure.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits his call for Tottenham replay is unlikely

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants their match against Tottenham to be replayed after a significant VAR error ruled out Luis Diaz’s goal but accepts he is unlikely to get his wish.

With the score at 0-0, Diaz was flagged offside but replays showed he was actually onside although Darren England, the VAR, mistakenly believed the on-field decision had been to award the goal, leading him to tell referee Simon Hooper the check was complete.

Liverpool’s complaints promoted the publication of the audio between officials which revealed the first person to spot the mistake was the replay operator, who urged the team of officials to stop the game, but the VAR and assistant VAR repeatedly said they could not intervene because play had restarted.

Klopp felt such an unp…

Man Utd full-back Williams moves to Norwich on loan

Manchester United defender Brandon Williams has joined Norwich City on a season-long loan.

The versatile full-back becomes Norwich s latest acquisition during a busy transfer window as they look to retain their top-flight status.

The 20-year-old s breakthrough campaign with United came in 2019-20, playing 36 times across all competitions in the absence of the injured Luke Shaw.

Playing three games more than Shaw, Williams produced 194 recoveries in comparison to the England international s total of 131, while also winning 11 more duels than his club colleague.

However, with an upturn in Shaw s form and the arrival of Alex Telles at Old Trafford, the academy product who signed a new four-year deal last term has fallen down the pecking order.

Ighalo signing shows Manchester United’s transfer failings

On the latest transfer deadline day, one of the deals that caught the eye was Manchester United signing former Watford striker Odion Ighalo on loan from Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua. It was a strange one, to say the least.

However, the Red Devils signing the Nigerian international smacked of desperation to bring in a forward player, as they were short in attack. This is not a new problem, as, in my opinion, they were short in attack at the start of the season.

They did not replace Lukaku

Last summer much-maligned Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku swapped Manchester for Milan, as the 26-year-old joined Inter from United. While many criticised the former Everton forward, he actually had a decent strike ratio, close to a goal every other game for the Red Devils.…
