Newcomers stepping up – Low on Euro 2016

Newcomers are playing the tournament of their lives and making it difficult for the established powers at Euro 2016 according to Germany boss Joachim Low.

The world champions were held to a drab goalless draw by Poland at the Stade de France on Thursday, unable to build fully on their opening 2-0 win over Ukraine now eliminated from the competition following a shock 2-0 loss to Northern Ireland.

Slovakia, Hungary and Iceland have also pulled off impressive results against the odds and Low believes a succession of closely contested games to date are down to the confident counter-attacking approaches being undertaken by the lesser lights.

Poland would not fall easily into that category but their coach Adam Nawalka tellingly admitted to happily allowing Germany poss…

World Cup 2018: Southgate warns against England writing off Tunisia & Panama

England manager Gareth Southgate believes they cannot afford to write off Tunisia and Panama after being handed a favourable World Cup draw.

Southgate s men were pitted against Tunisia a team they beat at the same stage at the 1998 World Cup and tournament debutants Panama in Friday s draw at the Kremlin in Moscow.

The Three Lions were also handed the tricky proposition of a game with Belgium, who boast what is seen as a golden generation featuring the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard, in Kaliningrad in their final Group G game.

That could be seen as a match to decide the winner of the group, but, with England having finished second in a group containing United States, Slovenia and Algeria in 2010, before failing to get out of a group also boasting Italy, U…

England ´more determined than ever´ to take the knee at Euro 2020, pledges Southgate

Gareth Southgate has promised England s players and his coaching staff will continue to take the knee before games during Euro 2020.

Since the Premier League resumed in June 2020 following a coronavirus-enforced lay-off, players and management have taken the knee prior to kick-off in a display against racial discrimination and injustice.

The act has also translated to the international stage, with the England team showing their support.

However, before Wednesday s friendly win over Austria in Middlesbrough, some sections of the socially distanced, limited-capacity crowd at the Riverside Stadium booed the demonstration, although other spectators responded with applause.

Having said after the game that some people were not understanding the message , …

Kane not setting limits on England achievements after milestone appearance

Harry Kane insisted the sky is the limit for what he can achieve with England after marking his 100th Three Lions appearance with two goals against Finland.

Kane, who became the 10th England centurion on Tuesday, marked the milestone with a second-half brace after seeing a header ruled out for offside before the break.

The Bayern Munich striker has been directly involved in 85 goals (68 goals and 17 assists) since his England debut in March 2015.

He also netted his 26th and 27th goals at Wembley, the most that any Three Lions player has managed at the iconic venue.

Kane also became the third England player to score on his 100th appearance, after Wayne Rooney (2014) and Bobby Charlton (1970).

Historic Harry.
